It’s the season for giving thanks and the Los Angeles Dodgers are doing a little more giving than that.
Kenley Jansen was at Dodger Stadium on Friday to hand out turkeys on behalf of the team, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and partner Smart & Final. Jansen was joined by his wife, Gianni, and together they helped distribute 1,200 turkeys, fixings and reusable canvas bags.
This is the 14th consecutive year that the team has done this with the meals going to families and organizations that will provide them to LA-area families in need.
The Dodgers provided more details as to who will be receiving the care packages:
The Dodgers have partnered with the offices of Congressmember Jimmy Gomez, California State Senator Kevin de León, California State Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo, LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis, Mayor Eric Garcetti, LA City Councilmember Gil Cedillo, and LA City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell for the turkey giveaway, with each office selecting organizations in its district to benefit. Turkeys and fixings are also being provided to pre-selected students in the Dodgers’ “Community of Schools,” a strategic community partnership to improve the education and wellness of children attending local schools (all Title I) and living in communities surrounding Dodger Stadium. Beneficiaries of Friday’s program also include participants of Dodgers RBI (LADF’s youth baseball and softball program), local residents from communities surrounding Dodgers Dreamfields and the Bresse Foundation, a non-profit organization supported by LADF.
